Saudi Arabia Removes Fees on Expats Working in Industrial Sector

The Saudi authorities have suspended fees on expatriate workers from the industrial sector for five years.

A Saudi cabinet’s statement issued on Tuesday said that the government will bear the cost on behalf of licensed industrial institutions. The order will come into effect starting this October.

The government will bear the cost of fees for expatriate workers on behalf of licensed industrial institutions as of October 1, 2019, for five years.

The Saudi government expects that the move will create new jobs for the expats in the country. The fee was previously imposed to encourage Saudi companies to hire local talent instead of importing from Asian and European countries.

The companies had, however, opposed the move saying that it increased the operating cost significantly.
