Shoaib Malik to Play South Africa’s Super League

Aged 37 and still going.

Former captain of Pakistan cricket team Shoaib Malik has decided to join Johannesburg-based Jozi Stars for the latter stages of the Mzansi Super League Twenty20 tournament this season.

The franchise announced that Malik will take over from Chris Gayle, who has been the star overseas signing for them.

It is also worth mentioning that the West Indian opener is only available for the first six of the Stars’ ten league matches. This means that for the last four matches, Malik will replace Gayle in the team.

Speaking about joining the franchise, Malik said:

It’s very exciting for me to be joining Jozi Stars as I’ve never played domestic cricket in South Africa previously, although I have obviously played many times there with my country. Hopefully we can be successful, and I look forward to contributing to the cause when I join up with them.

The Jozi Stars are defending champions of the tournament, which has thrived despite any major initial sponsors or advertising deals.

The tournament will be played from 8th November to 16th December.
