Tezgam Express and Karachi Express Derail at Cantt Railway Station

On Tuesday, two bogies of the Tezgam Express train were derailed at the Cantt Railway Station, Karachi. The Tezgam Express was heading to Rawalpindi from Karachi.

The bogies derailed when the train was shifting from the washing line to the main platform of the Cantt Railway Station. Thankfully, no injuries were reported after the incident.

Railway authorities stopped the trains heading to Karachi at different railway stations after the incident. Railway traffic was suspended for more than 4 hours.

Rescue teams and railway officials rushed to the scene immediately. The rescue operation was completed within 4 hours after which railway traffic was resumed.

In a separate incident, on Tuesday afternoon, two bogies of the Karachi Express also derailed at the same railway station. No injuries were reported.

These incidents come in the wake of the recent horrific explosion in a Tezgam Express train. On 3rd November, 75 people were burned to death when a gas cylinder exploded as the train was passing Rahim Yar Khan. The ill-fated Tezgam Express was traveling to Rawalpindi from Karachi.

Train accidents and derailment incidents are becoming common in Pakistan. According to the data provided by the Ministry of Railway, 74 train accidents were reported between August 2018 and June 2019. These accidents have claimed numerous lives with scores sustaining injuries. As a result of these accidents, Pakistan Railway has suffered losses worth billions.
