Just a month ago, it seemed very unlikely that Bangladesh would be playing Pakistan in their backyard due to security concerns. However, the efforts of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have yielded fruitful results.
The first match of a 3-T20I series is set to be played today at Gadaffi Stadium, Lahore. Bangladesh, unfortunately, will be without their most experienced campaigner Mushfiqur Rehman who opted out of the series due to family concerns. In addition to that, five of Bangladesh’s coaching staff also did not travel to Pakistan.
This has put extra pressure on other experienced candidates on the Bangladesh side such as Tamim Iqbal and their captain Mahmudullah. It is worth adding that Shakib-ul-Hasan is still serving the ban imposed by Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) last year.
The Pakistan selection committee has opted to shift things around and make 9 changes from the squad that featured against Australia. This is indeed a huge call as Amad Butt, Ahsan Ali, and Haris Rauf has all been included in the side.
Perhaps a surprise but Mohammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik have both been recalled to the side to compensate for the lack of experience, and probably showcase whether they are still capable of representing Pakistan in the upcoming T20 World Cup or not.
