Pakistan Halts Flights from China Southern Airlines Due to Coronavirus

Amid the virus outbreak in China, Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has halted flights of China Southern Airlines to Pakistan until January 31.

The decision was made in a meeting of the Lahore airport management with the Chief Operating Officer Chaudhary Nazir in the chair. A medical expert from Meo Hospital has been nominated as the focal person to deal with the patients coming from China.

The meeting decided that a fully equipped medical staff will check all the passengers coming from China with thermal scanners. A medical expert from Meo Hospital will oversee the operations.

It was also decided that the incoming passengers from the neighboring country will go through a thorough screening process in order to deal with the viral disease.

It should be noted that the virus has reached Thailand, Bangkok, and the US from China and is feared to spread further if not controlled in time.

As of today, 17 deaths have been reported in China due to the outbreak.

The World Health Organization (WHO), on the other hand, has declined to declare an international health emergency saying that the virus is not threatening enough.
