Sindh Launches Its Own App for Students

Sindh Education Minister, Saeed Ghani has said that it is impossible for them to open schools and other educational institutes even after Eid due to rapidly increasing coronavirus cases in the province.

Ghani made the statement while addressing a press conference in Karachi.

We are not in a position to open education institutes in Sindh, and even if we do, parents will not take the risk to send their children to attend schools and colleges.

Ghani said that currently, the provincial government had no substitute for schools. He, however, highlighted that the Sindh School Education Department and College Education Department has launched an android Mobile application for students from KG to Class V for distant learning.

He said that the app offers lessons in English, Urdu, and Sindhi to primary students from kindergarten to class five.

Similar educational reforms will soon be implemented through cable operators and FM radio.

While admitting that the closure of schools is damaging education, the minister said that they were forced to keep schools and colleges closed based on daily briefings given by health experts.

Ghani criticized the Supreme Court’s directive to open shopping malls in the province saying that education was more important than Eid shopping.

After the court’s decision, my personal opinion is that we should not only open schools but also allow all kinds of activities, because education is more important than purchasing clothes for Eid.

Whether the top court’s decision is wrong or right, the governments are bound to abide by the decision. He, however, maintained that every institution should take decisions within its constitutional limits.

He said that the provincial government was not oblivious to the concerns of private school owners and urged parents to pay school fees every month.

The minister added that the education department is also working to resolve all issues, including the teachers’ salaries, their regulation.
