BMW Finally Offers Android Auto in their Latest Infotainment Systems

If you were a BMW owner before, the only way you could configure your phone with your iDrive infotainment system is if you had an iPhone. That’s because up till now, the infotainment system only had Apple Carplay feature in it. But now, the latest BMW iDrive 7.0 infotainment systems shall also offer wireless Android Auto support.

For those who are wondering, basically Android Auto or Apple Carplay lets you have your infotainment system become a smart device with an Apple or Android interface and functions. This implies that you can use the map, communicate with people, listen to music, set reminders etc. just like you would on your smartphone.

Normally people prefer using Android Auto or Apple Carplay on their infotainment systems because it is familiar, and therefore, simpler to use as compared to the normal infotainment systems.

However, for those who wish to use the car’s own infotainment systems, it has been reported that the latest software also features enhanced maps, a voice-activated assistant, Apple’s digital key for the 5-series sedan only, and the ability to personalize the infotainment, comfort, performance and safety settings more so than before.

However, it is pertinent to mention that not all cars in the BMW lineup will get the iDrive 7 upgrade. The cars that will get the upgrade include the 2 Series Gran Coupe, 3 Series, 4 Series, 5 Series, 7 Series, 8 Series, X3, X4, X5, X6, X7 and the Z4 Roadster.

Normally, all modern cars have both, Apple Carplay and Android Auto, in their infotainment systems, but BMW was one of the few automakers that remained configurable only with Apple Carplay. But now, with the wireless Android Auto feature, BMW has certainly brought up the stock by a significant margin.
