Redmi 9 Offers a Compelling Mid-range Package for Rs. 21,500 [Unboxing]

In June this year, Xiaomi’s subsidiary Redmi launched the Redmi 9 that comes with a significant upgrade over last year’s Redmi 8. In PKR 21,500, the smartphone offers MediaTek Helio G80 processor, Quad-sensor rear camera set up, 6.53-inch display, and a 5020 mAh battery.

Here’s what our first impressions of the device were:

The smartphone comes with a dual-textured polycarbonate back. The area around the camera bump is relatively glossy, while the rest of the smartphone has a matte texture. Moreover, the fingerprint sensor is mounted such that it looks like a part of the camera bump.

Moving on to the display, Redmi 9 features a 6.53-inch IPS LCD panel with 1080 x 2340 pixels resolution, 19.5:9 aspect ratio, 395 PPI pixel density, and 400 nits brightness.

Camera and Performance

As mentioned, the smartphone sports a quad-sensor rear camera setup. The 13 MP primary sensor is complemented by an 8 MP ultra-wide cam, 5 MP macro sensor, and 2 MP depth sensor. The front camera inside the waterdrop notch is an 8MP wide-angle sensor that can capture HDR photos. Both front and back cameras can record 1080p videos at 30 fps.

One of the key highlights of this smartphone is its gaming-focused processor. It comes with a MediaTek Helio G80, which works pretty well for this price Bracket. Since the processor embeds two Cortex A73 cores, the smartphone can handle beginner to mid-range gaming without any lag. Performance-wise, Redmi 9 takes the lead when compared to other smartphones in this range. It boots on Android 10 topped with MIUI 12.

Lastly, the smartphone packs a 5020 mAh battery backed with 10W fast charging, which is decent considering the price. Overall, Redmi 9 is a good deal and offers some amazing specs at a low price.
