Toyota Launches Fortuner TRD in Pakistan

Toyota Indus Motor Company (IMC) has introduced a brand new variant in the Fortuner lineup. The said variant is the Toyota Fortuner TRD. The new trim level offers some cosmetic improvements over the pre-existing Fortuner trims, namely the G, the VVT-i and the Sigma 4.

The cosmetic upgrades include a new extended front bumper with a skid-plate, an all-black grille with a TRD decal beneath the Toyota emblem, blacked out B, C and D pillars, some black trim around the foglights, a black and white striped TRD decal that starts from the middle of the front doors on either side and runs up till the rear bumper and a new set of 18″ alloy rims.

On the rear, you have year another extended bumper with some black garnish that runs across the width of the car, while the rest of the rear is generally the same.

In terms of drive-train, the Fortuner TRD borrows the engine and transmission from the Fortuner Sigma 4, which means that it has a 2.8 liter turbocharged 4 cylinder diesel engine that makes about 180 horsepower at 3400 RPM and a rather healthy 450 newton/meters of torque at 1600 RPM. The car comes equipped with a 6-speed automatic transmission, which is the only gearbox option that you can get.

Inside, the Fortuner TRD has the same features as the other trims, such as dual-zone auto AC, sunglasses holder,  smart entry, push start, smart infotainment system, an analog gauge cluster with a digital screen that shows vital vehicle information, leather seats and cooling storage to keep the beverages cold throughout a long journey. In terms of safety, the SUV has driver and passenger airbags, Vehicle stability control, hill-start brake assist and Emergency Braking Signal (EBS) technology.

Reportedly, the TRD Fortuner can be had for Rs. 9,390,000, which is a steep price for what is essentially a Sigma 4 Fortuner with a TRD body kit. The said price came in with a notification that was issued by Toyota IMC in April 2020. This is strange because, as per the reports, Toyota IMC has not given any official directions to the dealers about the launch or the booking of the vehicle.
