At least 335 Pakistanis have lost their lives while attempting to reach Europe through illegal migration (Dunki) routes over the past four years, according to data compiled by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
FIA has recorded seven major boat disasters since June 2023, highlighting the continuing dangers faced by Pakistanis attempting the so-called Dunki route to Europe.
The deadliest incident occurred in June 2023, when a boat carrying 226 Pakistani migrants sank while heading to Greece. Only 19 people survived, while 207 Pakistanis were killed.
Another boat travelling to Greece met a similar fate in December 2024. Of the 69 Pakistanis on board, 25 died while 44 were rescued.
In January 2025, another migrant boat carrying 70 Pakistanis capsized near Morocco, while a separate tragedy off the coast of Libya in February 2025 involved 40 identified Pakistani migrants.
23 Pakistanis died in the Libya incident while 13 survived.
FIA records further show that three major boat disasters linked to illegal migration from Libya occurred during 2025-26, including incidents in April 2025, October 2025, and April 2026. These accidents affected 62 Pakistani migrants.
Overall, the Libya-related boat disasters claimed the lives of 48 Pakistanis, while only 30 were rescued.
