Everything You Need to Know About the New Toyota Fortuner Sigma 4 TRD Sportivo

Having been in the Pakistani market for 8 years and selling in huge numbers ever since its debut, the Toyota Fortuner is one of the most successful True SUVs to ever sell in this region. A successor to the Toyota Surf, the vehicle was introduced to the masses back in the early 2010s. The vehicle was officially launched by Toyota Indus Motor Company (IMC) in the country for the first time in 2013 as a locally assembled vehicle.

Since then, the car has been a favorite amongst Pakistani consumers. So much so that, after being initially introduced in a single petrol-engine trim level, the rising demand for the vehicle prompted Toyota IMC to introduce a Sigma 4 Trim in 2018, which comes with a turbocharged 2.8-liter diesel engine that generates more power, gives better mileage and has part-time 4×4 drivetrain as standard, and in the start of 2020, a lower-priced Fortuner G Trim was introduced.

Witnessing the car’s rising popularity, Toyota IMC decided to create a buzz in the market with a Limited Edition variant to the Toyota Fortuner lineup, the Sigma 4 TRD Sportivo. The new trim-level was announced unofficially around the 2nd week of September 2020, via various sources.

Though, the wheels had begun rolling in that direction officially as well, as Toyota IMC had dispatched the display vehicles and the brochures to all major dealerships across Pakistan on the 15th of September 2020.

On September 18th, 2020, the company officially announced the impending arrival of the new SUV trim and began taking bookings for it. On September 21st, 2020, the Pakistani market saw the official debut of the brand new and more aggressive-looking Toyota Fortuner Sigma 4 TRD Sportivo.

For the curious, TRD stands for Toyota Racing Development, which is Toyota’s in-house tuning team that specializes in engine, suspension, and chassis tuning of various cars and SUVs to make them sportier. The new Fortuner TRD Sportivo, however, has only been given cosmetic changes, in order to make an already powerful SUV look even more rugged.

The first noticeable difference is in the aggressive styling of the SUV. Apart from the sharp headlight and taillight design, the other variants of the Fortuner have a very subdued yet clean and elegant design displaying an aspect of sophistication.

With the TRD Sportivo trim, the SUV gets a new extended two-tone front bumper spoiler, an all-black grille featuring a TRD lower grille cover beneath the Toyota emblem, a black fog lamp cover, a black and white striped TRD decal that starts from the middle of the front doors on either side and runs up till the rear bumper as well as a new set of 18″ alloy rims with a special TRD design that is unique to this trim level.

The SUV shall also be available with 7 exterior color choices, namely, Super White, Attitude Black, Silver Metallic, Graphite Grey, Strong Blue, Phantom Brown, and Dark Teal Mica Metallic.

Features:

The theme of high quality also continues on the inside because Fortuner’s interior has a sense of occasion about it. It comes with a two-tone brown and black interior that blends in nicely together. Also, you get leather seats as standard and a dashboard made from exquisite materials. The cabin is nice and spacious and can easily accommodate up to five people. There’s also an option for 3-row seating that is plentiful to seat small children in the back.

In terms of features, the Fortuner TRD, being the finest trim level, comes fully-loaded with a kit inside, Dual Auto Air Conditioning, sunglasses holder, smart entry, push start, smart infotainment system, an analog gauge cluster with a digital screen that shows vital vehicle information, and a cool box to keep the beverages cold throughout a long journey.

In terms of safety, the SUV offers driver and passenger airbags with driver knee airbags as well, vehicle stability control, hill-start assist and descent control, and Emergency Braking Signal (EBS) technology to inspire maximum confidence and a sense of safety.

Performance:

In terms of performance, the Toyota Fortuner Sigma 4 TRD Sportivo is definitely the best among all SUVs that are made in Pakistan. The new Fortuner TRD borrows the engine and transmission from the Fortuner Sigma 4, which means that it has a 2.8 liter turbocharged 4-cylinder diesel engine that makes 130 KW (174 horsepower) at 3400 RPM and a rather healthy 450 newton-meters of torque at the 1600-2400 RPM band. The car comes equipped with a 6-speed sequential automatic transmission with paddle shifters, which is the only gearbox option that you can get.

It bears mentioning, however, that the Fortuner TRD Sportivo, unlike crossovers, is a proper Off-road SUV. With a strong body-on-frame chassis borrowed from the Hilux, a superior approach and departure angle, a mechanically locking rear differential, multiple drive controls, a strong engine, and a stout drivetrain allow this vehicle to drive in extreme on and off-road conditions without breaking a sweat.

Price:

There’s a famous saying that goes, “Quality Never Comes Cheap.” And so, the Toyota Fortuner Sigma 4 TRD Sportivo is also offered at a price of Rs. 9,399,000. At this price, however, you get quality, luxury, reliability, practicality, and best of all, exclusivity – Toyota IMC initially planned to make only 250 units of these, however, due to immense demand, they have increased the availability by an additional 60 units for a total of 310 units only nationwide.

There are currently no all-purpose SUVs present in the market that can offer as much bang for the buck as the Fortuner TRD Sportivo. Given that it is so obviously the superior choice out of all the options in the market, you should definitely take advantage of the moment and book yours now!
