WhatsApp has been testing the disappearing messages feature for a while now. Finally, the feature is ready to be rolled out and will be reaching the masses this month.
It will allow WhatsApp users to enable disappearing messages on chat conversations between friends and family. The messages will be deleted automatically after seven days. The feature can be enabled for individual chats as well as for group chats.
Referring to the upcoming feature, a WhatsApp spokesperson said,
We’re starting with seven days because we think it offers peace of mind that conversations aren’t permanent while remaining practical so you don’t forget what you were chatting about. The shopping list or store address you received a few days ago will be there while you need it and then disappear after you don’t.
The disappearing messaging will also wipe out photos and videos along with text messages. However, even though the messages will disappear for both parties, it’s still possible to take screenshots or simply copy messages before they’re automatically deleted.
After the feature rolls out, it will be available as a new option in each contact’s setting option in the app. You cannot enable it for all chats. It needs to be activated for every chat manually. Moreover, the setting will not wipe out older messages.
