Microsoft’s New Pluton Chip Promises Better Protection Against Hackers

In an effort to improve security on future Windows computers, Microsoft has announced a new security chip that will be directly built into future CPUs. Called Microsoft Pluton, this chip will protect Windows computers against malicious attacks and much more.

Pluton will replace the currently existing Trusted Platform Module (TPM) chip that is used to protect hardware and cryptocurrency keys. It will be integrated into future Intel, AMD, and Qualcomm chips and Microsoft says that it will make it much more difficult for hackers to gain access to the computer and launch malicious attacks.

This isn’t the first time we’re seeing the Pluton chip as it was first introduced with the Xbox One in 2013. It would stop owners from hacking the console or run pirated games. The chip was later added to the company’s cloud services and low-cost IoT devices.

It is now set to power Windows 10 computers in the future and according to Microsoft executives, it will be better, stronger, faster, and more consistent than TPM.

It is currently unknown when Pluton-powered computers will start shipping, but since brands including Intel, AMD, and Qualcomm have agreed on integrating it, there will surely be a wide variety of Pluton powered Windows computers available in the future. This will include custom-built PCs as well.
