Semiconductor Sales Rise by 30 Percent YoY in Q3 2020

According to a recent report by The Elec, a South Korean publication, global semiconductor sales have increased by 30 percent as compared to the same quarter last year.

The SEMI analysis details that the global sales of semiconductor equipment reached $19.4 billion in Q3 2020. As far as the individual country sales are concerned, China, Taiwan, and South Korea stood out by accounting for $5.62 billion, $4.75 billion, and $4.22 billion in sales, respectively.

As compared to the previous quarter, the semiconductor equipment sales saw a 6 percent decline. Despite that, it still saw an impressive jump of 92 percent over the same period last year.

In terms of companies, Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix were notable gainers. The year 2020 marked an increase in expenditure from both companies, which likely led to the said growth. Samsung began operations at its P2 line at its Pyeongtaek factory back in August. Moreover, after that, the company has signed contracts that translate into 87.2 billion Won (or roughly $80 million) collectively in the third quarter for semiconductor equipment.

In comparison, SK Hynix signed two contracts account for as much as 30.9 billion Won (roughly $28 million) for the semiconductor equipment in the third quarter.
