Pakistan’s Foreign Exchange Reserves Reach $20.40 BIllion

According to the latest data released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), total liquid foreign reserves held by the country stood at $20.40 billion as of December 4, 2020.

Total liquid foreign exchange reserves inched up by $160.6 million on a week-over-week (WoW) basis. Net reserves with the central bank also went up, to the tune of $187.6 million, while the net reserves with banks other than the central bank fell by $27 million.

The break-up of the foreign reserves position is as under:

  • Foreign reserves held by the State Bank of Pakistan stood at $13.298 billion.
  • Net foreign reserves held by commercial banks stood at $7.103 billion.
  • Overall, the total liquid foreign reserves of the country stood at $ 20.402 billion.

State Bank of Pakistan had received an amount of $359 million from multilateral/bilateral sources including US$307 million from Asian Development Bank (ADB) last week.

The central bank also paid back $171 million to different international lending agencies on the account of external debt.
