Petrol pump owners on Wednesday suspended their nationwide strike after a positive round of negotiations with the federal government.
The All Pakistan Petrol Pumps Owners Association announced the decision on Wednesday following talks with Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik.
Dealers have further ensured uninterrupted fuel supplies across Pakistan. The Petroleum Dealers Association also endorsed the move during a joint press conference.
Petroleum dealers had earlier planned to shut down filling stations across the country for 24 hours, from 6 AM on Thursday to 6 AM on Friday, in protest against the government’s daily fuel revision decision.
Speaking to the media, the petroleum minister said the government would address dealers’ concerns over profit margins through consultations with all stakeholders. He added that a summary on the proposed margin revision would be presented to the federal cabinet for approval.
He also announced that the government would hold another round of discussions with petroleum sector representatives after two weeks to review the proposed daily fuel pricing mechanism.
The decision to postpone the strike means petrol pumps will continue operating normally, for now.
