Govt Shifts Focus Towards Modern Technologies for Exploration of Minerals

Punjab’s Minister for Industries and Trade, Mian Aslam Iqbal, has directed the Mines and Minerals Department (MMD) to use state-of-the-art technologies for the exploration of the underground minerals.

The minister chaired a meeting at the Punjab Board of Investment and Trade (PBIT) office on Wednesday to review the MMD’s performance, exploration of underground minerals, and leasing of sites.

The meeting was attended by the Provincial Secretary MMD, Amir Ijaz Akbar, the Head of the Monitoring Unit, the DG Mines, experts, and other concerned officers.

The Provincial Secretary gave a detailed briefing about the steps that the department had taken to explore and utilize the mineral resources, and discussed the next plan of action.

The provincial minister said that billions of rupees will be invested and an effective policy will be drafted to lease mineral sites for the set up of new cement plants in Punjab.

He added that cement is an exportable item that can be used to boost foreign exchange and urged the MMD to begin the local manufacturing of soda ash.
