Apple’s Upcoming 12-Core Chip Will be Unveiled in March: Leak

Apple introduced the 5nm M1 chip in 2020, the company’s first self-made silicon with 8 cores meant to power MacBooks. We have heard about an upcoming 12 core Apple chip numerous times now, but now a notable tipster believes that it is arriving in March this year.

The leak comes from LeaksApplePro who has reason to believe that the next Apple silicon will launch in March with 12 cores. The tweet does not reveal anything else, but renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has previously reported that Apple will launch redesigned MacBook Pros in Q2 2021. These will have 14.1 inch and 16-inch display sizes and both will feature Apple chips.

The 14.1-inch variant may be powered by the 12 core Apple chip, whereas the 16-inch model could have a different 16 core chip. The 16-inch MacBook Pro would be beefier than the other with more space for a cooling solution, hence why having a more powerful chip makes sense. There are currently no details as to what this chip will be called.

Some reports have speculated that the 12 core chip will likely be divided into 8 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores. We expect to hear more info on the new Apple chip as Q1 comes to an end.
