Hazara University Issues a Strict Dress Code for Students and Staff

Mansehra’s Hazara University mandated a new dress code for all the students, faculty, and staff on campus via a notification on Friday that includes the wearing of abayas, scarves, and shalwar kameez for the females in particular.

The dress code calls for female students to wear scarves and loose-fitting dresses while avoiding skinny jeans, tights, and t-shirts. It also forbids the use of excessive makeup, jewels, and large handbags.

The male students have been told to avoid wearing skin-tight jeans, shorts, chains, and slippers, in addition to the prohibition of long hair and ponytails.

Furthermore, all the students are required to wear their identification cards on the university’s premises.

Additionally, the administration staff has been asked to wear neat, clean, and presentable clothes while the teachers are now required to don black gowns during lectures. They have also been prohibited from wearing shorts, skinny jeans, slippers, earrings, and wrist chains.

This new dress code was approved in the twenty-second meeting of the academic council that was chaired by the Dean of Hazara University on 29 December 2020, and has been implemented on the orders of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s Governor Shah Farman who is also its Chancellor.
