Textile Sector Showed Huge Export Growth in July to December 2020

Pakistan’s exports of textiles and pharmaceuticals posted high growth in July-December 2020, Adviser to Prime Minister on Commerce and Investment Abdul Razak Dawood announced in a tweet on Wednesday.

Sharing the figures of textile export for July-December 2020, he said that the exports of home textiles increased by 16 percent to $2.017 billion in July-December 2020, while the exports of readymade garments grew by 25 percent to $1.181 billion, and tents and canvas exports grew by 57 percent to $62 million during the said period.

The adviser also shared non-textile sectors that posed growth in exports, where the pharmaceuticals sector increased by 25 percent to $138 million, ethyl alcohol (industrial) exports went up by 14 percent to $182 million, and the exports of tobacco and cigarettes went up by 84.5 percent to $29 million. Processed food exports also increased by 120 percent to $25 million, the adviser tweeted.

The country’s exports witnessed 18.31 percent growth and remained $2.352 billion in December 2020 compared to $1.988 billion in December 2019.
