CJP Orders to Fire PSM Management Before Sacking Employees

Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Gulzar Ahmed, has ordered the removal of all officers of the Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM) before the sacking of employees.

Justice Gulzar made this statement during the hearing of a case on the promotions of the mill employees. He also held the management of the PSM responsible for the mill’s downfall.

The Chief Justice said that the Supreme Court would pass an order for closing down the Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM).

Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed said that mills that have been closed don’t need officers. “What those 439 officers are doing.”

Remove all officers and then start sacking the employees, the top judge remarked.

He said that mills that have been closed do not need officers, adding that these officers are nothing but a burden on the national treasury. He ordered the removal of all officers and before sacking the employees.

During the proceedings, the PSM lawyer told the court that the government has changed the management of the PSM. To which Justice Gulzar asked if this move will convert the entity from loss-making to profitable.

The Justice also said that the management worked together and took decisions that affected the mills. “Has the government launched any investigation against the management?” he inquired, remarking that the court will issue a short order later in the day.

The Supreme Court (SC) has also ordered ministers for planning and privatization to appear before the court on February 9, 2021.
