59% Healthcare Workers Yet to Receive COVID-19 Vaccine

A recently conducted survey by Gallup Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International Association, in collaboration with the Pakistan Islamic Medical Association (PIMA), has revealed that around 59% of healthcare workers have not been inoculated against Coronavirus disease.

According to the survey titled “National Survey of Potential Acceptance of COVID-19 Vaccine in Healthcare Workers”, 81% of frontline healthcare workers are willing to receive the Coronavirus vaccine while 19% are hesitant due to the safety and efficacy of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Of the 555 healthcare workers who participated in the survey, 84% believe that the public is at moderate to serious risk due to Coronavirus disease.

A staggering 89% of healthcare workers are working in facilities where Coronavirus patients are being treated. Of those, 4 out of 10 healthcare workers have come in contact or attended a COVID-19 patient and 32% have tested positive for COVID-19.

Social media is the most dominant source of information about the Coronavirus vaccine in the medical community as 50% of healthcare workers depend on it.

Executive Director Gallup Pakistan, Bilal Ijaz Gilani, has said that Coronavirus vaccine rollout is slow and if more than 400,000 healthcare workers are to be vaccinated, the current pace needs to change rapidly.
