Although Microsoft offers AMD CPU variants for its surface laptops, the options are pretty limited. Users can only choose between the AMD Ryzen 3580U and 3780U CPUs on the 15-inch Surface Laptop 3. The 13.5-inch version is only available with Intel CPUs.
Microsoft is reportedly planning to expand the available options by providing AMD processor variants for both models of the Surface Laptop 4 slated to launch in April.
For both the models of Surface Laptop 4, i.e., 13.5-inch and 15-inch, the company will roll out four different processor variants. These are:
- AMD Ryzen 5 4680U
- AMD Ryzen 7 4980U
- Intel Core i5 1145G7
- Intel Core i7 1185G7
The Intel processors come from the company’s latest 11th generation Tiger Lake series. However, the maxed-out storage variant will only be available with the Intel processors. If users want the 32 GB RAM and 1 TB onboard storage variant, they will have to opt for the Intel processor. The maximum storage with the AMD variants is reportedly 16GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage.
Furthermore, it does not look like the Surface Laptop 4 series will get many other upgrades. According to the spec sheet WinFuture shared both the 13.5-inch and the 15-inch models retain their 2256 x 1504 and 2496 x 1664 resolution displays and they will ship with the same number of ports.
