OnePlus 9 series is confirmed to debut on March 23 this year and as the launch date draws near, the company has teased more details about the upcoming phones on Twitter. OnePlus India on Twitter has officially revealed that the OnePlus 9 will have a Sony IMX766 sensor as its ultrawide shooter.

This ultrawide camera will be a 50MP unit that will use a freeform lens to reduce distortion in photos from 20% to only 1%. Company CEO Pete Lau has even shared some camera samples taken from the ultrawide camera on Twitter. The tweet compares a conventional ultrawide camera with shots taken from the Sony IMX766 sensor with much less distortion.

The OnePlus 9 lineup is rumored to include three models this time around including the base OnePlus 9, the OnePlus 9 Pro, and the OnePlus 9E. The Chinese brand has not clarified which model will feature a 50MP Sony IMX766 ultrawide unit, but it will most likely be the Pro since it’s the highest-end model in the series.
OnePlus has recently entered a partnership with Swedish camera and optics maker Hasselblad and we are expecting to see a massive leap in camera performance compared to last year.
