CDWP Approves Project Worth Rs. 3.72 billion and Refers Another to ECNEC

The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) has cleared one development project with a cumulative estimated cost of Rs3.72 billion and recommended one project worth Rs. 89.56 billion to the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) for further consideration

The meeting presided over by Deputy Chairman Planning Commission, Mohammad Jehanzeb Khan. Secretary Planning, Hamed Yaqoob Sheikh, and senior officials from Planning Commission and Federal Ministries/Divisions also participated in the meeting, while representatives from other provincial governments participated through video conference.

A project related to Agriculture, Food, Physical Planning, Housing, and Climate Change was put forth in the meeting, namely “ Village Rehabilitation Programme (VRP) under Umbrella program of COVID-19 responsive and other natural clematis control program, sub-component No. 3 National Program for Water & Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) & sub-component No.4 National Program for Improvement in Local Infrastructure Livelihood”, worth Rs. 3,720 million, approved by CDWP.

The project is aimed at providing safe drinking water, supply schemes, and latrines to poor households and brick pavements schemes, along with sanitation drains to 54,615 households surveyed in 5 districts.

For Physical Planning and Housing, the project titled “Punjab Rural Sustainable Water Supply and Sanitation Project” worth Rs. 89,560 million was referred to ECNEC for further approval. It aims to provide integrated WASH infrastructure to almost 2,000 villages and safe drinking water with improved sanitation facilities.

The underlined developmental proceedings are aimed at rejuvenating the existing water supply and sanitation infrastructure for supporting institutional reforms, and to educate and raise awareness among citizens for the future.
