SBP Makes Final Announcement About New Currency Notes This Eid

In view of the prevailing Coronavirus situation in the country, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has decided not to issue new banknotes on Eid-ul-Fitr this year as well.

According to a statement issued by the central bank on Thursday, “like last year, the SBP will not issue new banknotes on the occasion of Eid due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.”

Each year, SBP issues new banknotes on the occasion of Eid so people can spend them during Eid festivities.

However, this year, the government has requested the citizens not to celebrate Eid with traditional fervor as part of its ‘Stay Home Stay Safe Strategy’ for mobility control during Eid-ul-Fitr holidays amid a deadly third wave of Coronavirus.

The SBP’s statement comes only a day after the country achieved a grim milestone by recording more than 200 daily deaths for the first time since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the last 24 hours, Pakistan reported 5,112 new cases and 131 deaths from Coronavirus, taking the tally of active cases across the country to 91,547.  Overall, Pakistan has recorded 820,823 cases, 711,465 recoveries, and 17,811 deaths from Coronavirus.
