K2 Base Camp Gets Its First 4G Transceiver

In line with the government’s vision of promoting tourism across the country, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and telecom operators are focusing on improving telecommunication services in areas that are full of tourism potential.

A 4G Base Transceiver Station (BTS) has been installed at the K2 Base camp area of Concordia to provide better communication facilities to mountaineers and trekkers. The site is called ‘Ali Sadpara’ in memory of the late high-altitude mountaineer who vanished on K2 this year.

WorldCall is Being Taken Over Once Again

It was inaugurated by Prime Minister Imran Khan during his recent visit to Gilgit-Baltistan and has been made operational by the Special Communication Organization (SCO) to ensure communication facilities at the base camp of the world’s second tallest peak.

The mobile coverage and internet access will be pivotal for mountaineers and trekking groups, allowing them to stay connected with their families and to aid them in emergency situations. It will also help to promote adventure tourism and weather monitoring.
