KP Govt is Setting Up E-Sports Academies in The Province

In a bid to enable local gamers to compete at the global level, Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Mahmood Khan, has approved a summary to set up esports academies in the province.

According to details, the Directorate General Sports and Directorate of Youth Affairs will work in tandem to set up esports academies all over the province.

The esports academies will be equipped with powerful computers and high-speed internet connectivity.

These academies will be established at all ‘Jawan Markaz’ where e-gamers will acquire new and enhance existing skills to take part in international competitions.

An excerpt from the approved summary states that the global esports industry generated $143 billion in 2020 compared to $104 billion in 2016. Esports tournaments alone generated $1.1 billion in 2020 versus $776.4 million in 2018.

On the other hand, the esports audience increased to 495 million in 2020 against the 395 million in 2018 and is expected to cross the 646 million mark in 2023.
