Careem Celebrates World Food Safety Day by Shining Light on Pakistani Eating Trends

No one can deny that the COVID-19 pandemic has not just changed the world but also the way we do things. When we were forced to stay indoors, we opted for ways to make our lives easier and simpler.

We witnessed innovation like never before and in Pakistan’s case, we witnessed the long due acceptance of new ways of doing things such as digital banking/payments or using mobile applications for everyday items such as ordering food and groceries, or simply getting stuff delivered from point A to B. It is safe to say that the digital penetration in Pakistan saw decent growth during COVID times.

Talking about food, we recently reached out to Careem to mutually celebrate the World Food Safety Day and they gave us some interesting food-related trends regarding what our fellow Pakistanis are into. Let’s check it out!

1. Healthy food restaurants available on Super App: Nothing beats healthy food made at home with ek chutki love, however sometimes you just don’t wanna cook. That’s alright cause we figured there are a bunch of healthy food restaurants available on the Careem Super App including: NECOS, Subway, Healthy Cuisine, Grab Your Meal, Damascus, Nandos, PITA the Shawarma Revolution, WOK, Slice of Life and there is always salads from your favorite restaurants such as Espresso, Bella Vita, Del Frio, PF Changs and so much more.

2. Most popular healthy food item ordered in 2021:  Pakistanis clearly have a weird way of being healthy as the most popular healthy food item ordered was an Original Beiruti from Pita The Shawarma Revolution.

 3. Most unexpected healthy food ordered: This one did not disappoint us, as the most unexpected healthy food ordered on the Careem Super App was Laal Aattey ki Roti. Good job guys, keep up the healthy eating!

 4. Weirdest healthy food ordered:  We are a weird bunch of people okay, and we do weird things.. It’s totally normal, in fact, some say weird is the new sexy. Anyways, we all have a friend like this, or sometimes it is us. This made us genuinely laugh.

5. Juice Bars on Careem:  Juices to us are the same as coffee to foreigners. If you’re a Karachiitee, you know nothing beats a good cold juice in summers. Here are a few juice bars available on the Careem Super App: 17th Station, Agha Juice, Grito Juice Bar, Healthy Blends, Juice Corner, Juices Island, Master Juice, Refuel Juice Bar, Tattle Tea House.

6. Reward Points for FOOD?!: We were as shocked to hear about this as you are but every ride you take or food order you place through the Careem Super App, gives you Reward points (press on the top right of your home screen) which are redeemable for a bunch of different things.

We never knew there were BuyOneGetOneFree options for FOOD!!! The healthiest option was GREENO where with a purchase of one Day Delight, you get one absolutely free, followed by Juices Island, giving you a Sugar Cane Juice free with the purchase of one!  Mhmm sounds refreshing.

Since we were on the subject, we asked Careem regarding the food safety of the products they delivered, including following safety SOPs as well as hygiene and we must say that we were impressed, take a look for yourself:

  • Every swag box is disinfected before meals and the Captain follows all SOPs

  • You can also order literally anything (from Zahid Nihari to clothes from your tailor or simply a pack of cigarettes) through Careem’s Order Anything feature on the Super App. You can also get the Captain to BUY a product worth 1000 and bring it to you.
  • The newly added service provides two options through the Careem Super App: Pick & Drop- where captains will be able to pick up anything forgotten or grab a delivery from a friend and deliver it to customers, and Shop & Drop – where captains will shop for any item on the customer’s behalf and deliver it.
