Pakistan’s Trade Deficit Widens by 30.56%

Pakistan’s trade deficit had widened by 30.56 percent to $27.488 billion in July-May 2020-21 as compared to $21.054 billion in July-May 2019-20, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

The trade figures show that Pakistan’s imports had remained at $50.048 during July-May 2020-21 as compared to $40.849 billion in July-May 2019-20, registering a growth of 22.52 percent.

The country’s exports had grown by 13.97 percent and remained at $22.560 billion in July-May 2020-21 as compared to $19.795 billion in July-May 2019-20.

Pakistan’s trade deficit had widened by a massive 149.49 percent on a year-on-year basis to $3.645 billion in May 2021 as compared to $1.461 billion in May 2020.

According to the PBS, the trade figures showed that the country’s exports had registered an increase of 18.48 percent in May 2021 and had stood at $1.654 billion as compared to $1.396 billion in May 2020.

Pakistan’s imports had remained at $5.299 billion in May 2021 as compared to $.857 billion in May 2020, registering a growth of 85.47 percent.

The trade deficit had widened by 19.86 percent to $3.645 billion in May 2021 as compared to $3.041 billion in April 2021.

Pakistan’s exports had decreased by 25.46 percent and had stood at $1.654 billion in May 2021 against $2.219 billion in April 2021.

The country’s imports remained at $5.299 billion in May 2021 as compared to $5.260 billion in April 2021, registering a growth of 0.74 percent.
