Following the development, the PMC issued a notification on Sunday, saying that under its Undergraduate Education (Admissions, Curriculum, and Conduct) Regulations 2021, applicants for admission to medical and dental colleges can attempt the MDCAT examination even if they are yet to take their FSc. and A-Level examinations.

Due to disruptions faced by education systems in Pakistan and around the world due to the pandemic, all relevant authorities have put in place special provisions to cater for the affected students during the medical and dental college admission processes.

It announced that the MDCAT examinations will be conducted from 30 August to 30 September this year all over the country. Students who are scheduled to take their A-Level examinations in October 2021 can also sit for the MDCAT in September 2021 while applying for admissions to medical colleges before taking their examinations.

As admissions in the medical colleges are to be finalized by 15 January 2022, while the A-Levels examination results will also be announced in the same month, medical and dental colleges have been asked to refrain from finalizing the admissions for the seats equal to the number of A-Level candidates who are awaiting their results.

Admissions against these seats will be finalized by 10 February 2022.

The statement mentioned that this year, the merit will be calculated based on elective subject results, as the assessments this year are being conducted only for the optional subjects.

The PMC added that a  similar policy will soon be announced for admissions in private medical and dental colleges.
