Pakistan’s COVID-19 Curve Has Straightened After 1 Week of Restrictions

The COVID-19 graph has straightened after more than a week of major restrictions, including the closure of schools in districts with a high prevalence of viral infection.

However, no downward trend was observed in the COVID-19 curve despite eight days of restrictions. Health experts are of the view that it may take another week to see the number of cases fall.

Speaking to the media, Vice-Chancellor (VC) University of Health Sciences (UHS) Dr. Javed Akram said that it is not necessary that the COVID-19 curve would flatten or the transmission of the disease would slow down.

He added that Coronavirus cases will decrease next week as the transmission rate falls down two weeks after imposing restrictions. However, the roller-coaster phenomenon will continue in the future.

To contain the spread of the disease, the National Command and Operation Centre enforced a number of restrictions which came into effect on 1 September.

Since then, the country has reported 3,800 cases of Coronavirus per day on average. However, the cases have yet to fall below 3,000. The last time the country recorded less than 3,000 cases was on 25 July when 2,819 cases were confirmed.
