Karachi to Hyderabad (M9) motorway has started the collection of toll tax through an Artificial Intelligence system which not only saves time but aids drivers as they no longer have to wait in long queues at the toll plaza.
According to the authorities of the M9 motorway, the modern system has been set up at the Hyderabad, Karachi, and other interchanges on the M9 highway and is undergoing the pilot phase.
The system works by utilizing cameras and AI as whenever a vehicle enters an interchange it is not stopped, rather, the AI system takes pictures of the vehicle’s number plate and the driver with the help of high-definition cameras.
And when the vehicle reaches a toll tax gate to exit the highway, an automated camera matches the pictures with the previously taken picture and calculates the distance and subsequently the toll tax. It is then displayed in front of the toll tax clerk who collects the payment from the driver.
The system is certainly a good step as the toll tax collection in the rest of the country is done manually through computerized receipts.
