Punjab Cabinet Discusses Bifurcation of Lahore Into Two Districts

Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar has called for the bifurcation of Lahore into two districts on administrative grounds to control the booming population.

The proposal, floated by the Senior Member Board of Revenue (SMBR), came into consideration during the provincial cabinet meeting on Tuesday.

During the meeting, the chief minister said that the provincial capital had become overpopulated and its division into two districts was the need of the hour. He was apprised that the move would lead to the creation of new tehsils — Ferozewala, Thokar Niaz Baig, Kahna, Kot Abdul Malik, and Harbanspura.

The chief minister, however, suggested building a political consensus before taking any decision in this regard.

CM Buzdar sought a final proposal from the authorities concerned and directed them to prepare a new map according to the expanded areas of Lahore.

The meeting was attended by cabinet ministers, Principal Secretary to CM, and senior officials of SMBR.
