Following the Pakistan Flour Mills Association’s strike, the United Naan Roti Association has expressed concerns about the potential shortage of flour.
The association has warned that tandoors might also be closed due to the shortage. Due to the concerns regarding the potential shortage of flour, the association has called an emergency meeting.
According to the sources, the meeting will focus on the strike’s impact and discuss possible responses. Meanwhile, the Flour Mills Association’s Chairman Asim Raza has pledged to continue the strike until their demands are met.
He criticized the withholding tax, stating that it forces flour mills to act as tax collectors. He explained that this tax could raise flour prices by Rs. 8 per kilogram.
Raza also criticized the imposition of a Rs. 600 tax on an Rs. 11,000 flour bag, dismissing Punjab Food Minister Bilal Yasin’s claim that the strike had been postponed until after Ashura (July 17). “Neither the government nor the FBR has contacted us for talks or to reconsider the strike,” he added.
