HUBCO has imported test units of the BYD Sealion 6, a plug-in hybrid SUV, into Pakistan. This move suggests the company intends to launch the vehicle in the local market if it tests well on the local roads.
All versions are fitted with BYD’s ‘Dual-Motor Intelligent’ (DM-I) petrol-electric plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain. The Sealion 6 is available in two variants: Dynamic FWD and Premium AWD.
The five-seater Sealion 6 measures 4775 mm in length, 1890 mm in width, and 1670 mm in height, with a 2765 mm wheelbase. The boot space is rated at 574 liters with the second-row seats in use, expanding to 1440 liters with the rear seats folded down.
Engine Specs and Power Output
2024 BYD Sealion 6 Dynamic FWD offers a combined power output of 214 HP and 300 Nm torque. This power is delivered through a 96 HP/135 Nm, 1.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine paired with an electric motor at the front making 194 HP/300 Nm torque. The vehicle boasts an 8.5-second 0-100km/h acceleration time.
2024 BYD Sealion 6 Premium AWD features a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 128 HP/220 Nm torque, a front electric motor making 201 HP/300 Nm torque, and a rear electric motor producing 160 HP/250 Nm torque. This combination results in a total system output of 319 HP and 550 Nm torque, achieving a quicker 0-100km/h time of 5.9 seconds.
Insane Fuel Economy and Driving Range
The Dynamic FWD has a claimed fuel economy of 90 kilometers/liter. The Premium AWD variant has a claimed fuel economy of 71 kilometers/liter.
Both models are equipped with an 18.3 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate ‘blade’ battery, allowing for a 30 to 80 percent charge in 35 minutes using an 18 kW DC fast charger. This battery also supports vehicle-to-load functionality.
Combined with a 60-liter fuel tank, the Sealion 6 can achieve a maximum driving range of approximately 1100 kilometers under ideal conditions. This means you will be able to get to Karachi from Lahore on a single tank of fuel.

A misleading article and caption. Plugin hybrids have no range issues. The moment battery is exhausted, gasoline engine takes over. The initial run is more than a conventional hybrid.
