The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) raided an ice cream production unit on 46km Multan Road, imposing a fine of Rs200,000 for violations and discarding a large quantity of unwholesome food. PFA Director General Muhammad Asim Javaid stated that the unit was penalized due to the presence of expired raw materials, an abundance of insects, dirty walls, a stinky environment in the processing area, and violations of the Punjab Pure Food Regulations. Additionally, non-food grade and uncertified materials were being used for packaging the ice cream.
Javaid emphasized that using expired raw materials in food items popular among children poses a serious health risk. He noted that, under the direction of the Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, strict action is being taken against food business operators (FBOs) involved in forgery or negligence in food preparation.
He urged consumers to read labels before purchasing any food items and to avoid substandard products. Javaid also requested public support in combating food adulteration and encouraged people to report any complaints to the PFA’s 1223 helpline.
