Waheed Ahmed, Chairman of the Fruit and Vegetable Association, addressed concerns today about the severe impact of climate change on Pakistan’s mango crop, reported on Friday.
He revealed that this year’s mango production has dropped by 35%, attributing this decline to adverse climate conditions.
Ahmed emphasized that climate change has been affecting Pakistan since 2013, with rising global temperatures posing significant threats to agriculture and food security.

He pointed out that if immediate steps are not taken to mitigate these effects, the country could face severe food security challenges shortly.
Highlighting the broader global concern over global warming, Ahmed cited the recent heat-related fatalities in Karachi during June and July as examples of the dangers posed to human life by rising temperatures.
He stressed that these climate shifts also jeopardize agricultural yields, as evidenced by the need to import substantial quantities of onions and tomatoes last year due to local production shortages.
Ahmed urged policymakers and stakeholders to prioritize climate resilience strategies in agriculture to safeguard both crops and livelihoods from the escalating impacts of climate change.

Stop blaming it on Climate change. Blame housing societies. DHA Multan alone has destroyed thousands of acres of mango fields. There are huge luxury plots on the site of Mango fields in Multan.
Establishment, Punjab government and their Elite housing society friends are the real reason for this decline and destruction.
Wrong on that . While it’s true that dha is being built in Multan. Housing schemes and other steps were taken to make sure pakistani can no longer use agriculture.
Dha is just blamed alot
No moon of other housing schemes
DHA Multan is established on more than 10,000 acres of prime agriculture land. Please stop this invasion of Pakistan Army and real state elite on Multan. If they will not be stopped then in future no mango fields will be left and we will see mangoes in history books only.
I was admit to say that but reality already beat me to it 😂
Climate change ? Your housing schemes cleaned the area . U can import mangoes now . Imf will tax u as usual .
Pakistan is living on borrowed times . More housing and then whine amor climate change . Cry all u want . It won’t affect reality. Forget mangoes , everything will become expensive as dollar will now be used to feed u .
