The Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has warned about heavy rainfall expected to hit the province in the coming days, especially on Muharram 8 and 9 (July 15 and 16).
PDMA has advised mourning procession organizers to take preventive actions due to the forecasted weather. A PDMA representative suggested that procession organizers stay alert and ensure all necessary safety measures are taken.
People are also advised to avoid electric poles and wires, hold gatherings on unsafe rooftops, and steer clear of river crossings, streams, and nullahs.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted light rain and drizzle in Karachi, following an earlier forecast of increased temperatures before the new monsoon spell in Sindh from July 18 or 19.
At the same time, the Federal Flood Commission (FFC) has reported that the Kabul River is experiencing a low flood at the Warsak-Nowshera section. However, other major rivers such as the Indus, Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlej flow normally.
According to FFC’s daily report, the total live storage of major reservoirs in the country, including Tarbela, Mangla, and Chashma, stands at 8.374 million acre-feet (MAF), which is 62.86 percent of the full capacity of 13.321 MAF.
