Explosion at Bahawalpur University Destroys Building

A gas leak triggered a powerful explosion at Islamia University Bahawalpur, causing the Cholistan Institute of Desert Studies building to collapse. Fortunately, the explosion did not lead to a fire.

Rescue teams quickly arrived and extracted seven people injured in the blast from the wreckage. One of the injured, identified as Ashfaq, a student, had extensive burns over 80% of his body and was urgently taken to the Multan Burn Center for advanced treatment.

His condition remains critical, with doctors working hard to stabilize him. Dr. Shazia Anjum stated that the explosion was caused by a gas leak that led to a dangerous buildup of pressure.

A small ignition sparked the explosion, causing the building to collapse without any fire. The lack of flames suggests that the materials inside did not catch fire, which helped prevent additional damage.

Dr. Javed clarified that the explosion was not due to chemicals or gas cylinders but was caused by a minor leak in the gas fitting.

Bahawalpur Deputy Commissioner Zaheer Anwar visited the site and confirmed that forensic teams will investigate the cause of the explosion. He added, “The student with 80% burns has been referred for treatment, and doctors will determine if the burns are caused by fire or chemicals.”
