The Specialised Healthcare & Medical Education Department (SHC&MED) has announced plans to hire 3,000 female nurses on a permanent basis.
The SHC&MED, in a letter to the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC), announced its intention to hire 3,000 charge nurses (BS-16) for Batch-2024 on a permanent basis, covering all quotas.
In this regard, the department included the filled requisition form and necessary documents as per PPSC requirements. The SHC&MED has asked for expedited processing and for the recommendations of selected candidates to be made in line with the applicable rules and policies.
It is pertinent to mention that during a recent meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Health, it was revealed that Pakistan face a shortage of about one million nurses. Furthermore, as many as 30,000 to 40,000 doctors registered with the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) are not practising medicine.
Despite the shortage of nurses in the country, Federal Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi recently stated that Pakistan would send qualified nurses to the United States for employment.
He made the statement during a meeting with the Deputy Speaker of the New York State Assembly Phil Ramos in Islamabad. “An agreement was reached to send qualified Pakistani nurses to New York for employment after completing necessary processes,” the interior ministry said in a statement.
