Xiaomi has officially entered the highly competitive foldable smartphone market with the launch of its inaugural flip phone, the Mix Flip. The Mix Flip pulls out all the stops with maxed-out specifications despite a cheaper price tag than the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6.
It is also better than the Z Flip 6 in battery size, wired charging, zoom camera, secondary screen, and more.
Design and Display
The device immediately stands out with its impressive 4.01-inch cover screen, matching the Motorola Razr+ 2024 as the largest in its category. Xiaomi refers to this display as the All Around Liquid outer screen, capable of running full applications and accommodating various widgets within its 16:9 aspect ratio.
Unfolding the Mix Flip reveals a generous 6.86-inch OLED main screen that boasts a 120 Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 3,000 nits.
Internals and Software
Under the hood, the device is powered by the cutting-edge Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor and features a 3500mm² vapor chamber cooling system to maintain optimal performance.
For software, the Mix Flip gets the same Hyper OS skin as the latest Xiaomi phones on top of Android 14.
Cameras
The Xiaomi Mix Flip boasts a dual camera setup on its cover screen, featuring two 50MP sensors. The primary camera utilizes a f/1.7 aperture with 1.0µm pixel size and delivers an impressive 13.5 stops of dynamic range.
The second camera sensor has a f/2.0 aperture and a 46mm focal length, providing 2x optical zoom. Notably, the floating lens design allows for close-up shots as near as 9 centimeters. To enhance versatility, the Mix Flip’s unique mechanical hinge enables users to capture photos at any angle between 45 and 135 degrees, similar to other rival foldables.
Battery and Pricing
The device houses a substantial 4,780 mAh battery, placing it among the top contenders in the segment for battery capacity. Additionally, the Mix Flip supports rapid 67W HyperCharge technology for swift recharging.
Available in Black, White, Purple, and a special Nylon fiber edition, the Mix Flip offers storage options of 16 GB/1 TB, 12 GB/512 GB, and 12 GB/256 GB with its starting price at $820 in China.
