Karachi to Plant 0.14 Million Trees

Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi has announced the launch of a campaign within the next two weeks to plant 140,000 saplings. The forest department, municipal authorities, and private institutions have pledged their cooperation. Deputy commissioners will oversee the planting of 10,000 saplings in their respective districts.

The Commissioner has urged institutions to collaborate in this planting campaign to collectively enhance the city’s environment and support the government’s efforts to tackle environmental issues. The afforestation campaign aims to green highways, parks, green belts, and other areas of Karachi, contributing to the government’s environmental improvement initiatives.

Participants in the meeting included deputy commissioners, the Forest Department, Uzma Municipality, KDA, MDA, LDA, Cantonment Boards, DI Site Limited, KPT, Civil Aviation Authority, Mazar Quaid Management Board, Port Qasim Authority, town administrations, Abad, Site Limited Chambers of Commerce and Industries, municipal and development institutions, as well as representatives from private organizations and NGOs focused on the environment.

It was decided that only environmentally friendly plants would be used, avoiding the plantation of Cornocarpus. Deputy commissioners have already begun identifying suitable locations for the plantation.
