The Pakistan Navy has officially commissioned its Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV), PNS Hunain, at Constanta Port in Romania. The event was attended by Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf as the chief guest.
It was also attended by General Gheorghita Vlad, Chief of the Defence Staff of Romania, and Vice Admiral Mihai Panait, Chief of the Romanian Navy, who served as guests of honor.
During the ceremony, the Chief of the Naval Staff underscored the importance of the project, highlighting the enhanced capabilities PNS Hunain brings to the Pakistan Navy’s operational scope.
He expressed confidence that these versatile and advanced platforms, fitted with cutting-edge weapons and sensors, will boost the Pakistan Navy’s presence and readiness for ongoing maritime security operations in the Indian Ocean Region.
The newly commissioned PNS Hunain is a medium-sized, highly versatile vessel with advanced electronic warfare, anti-ship, and anti-air capabilities. It features modern self-defense and terminal protection systems.
The ship can carry a multirole helicopter and is designed to operate independently and as part of a Task Force, allowing it to conduct missions over extended periods while protecting Pakistan’s maritime interests.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by high-level dignitaries from Pakistan, Romania, and the Netherlands, as well as members of the Pakistani community in Romania.
