Local Court Fines UAE-Based Airline Over Canceled Flight

A consumer court in Sialkot has fined a UAE-based international airline Rs. 100,000 for providing substandard services to a client.

Fatima Saba, a passenger from Sialkot, complained to the district consumer court alleging that she had booked a flight to Istanbul (Turkiye) from Faisalabad, scheduled for April 17, 2024.

Upon arriving at the airport, Saba discovered that the flight had been canceled without prior notification from the airline. Furthermore, the flight was not rescheduled, and she did not receive a refund for her ticket.

The petitioner presented all required documents supporting her claim, and the court examined the petition by legal procedures. Consumer court presiding officer Gulzar Ahmed Khalid delivered the verdict, imposing a fine of Rs. 100,000 on the airline.

The consumer court has ordered the international airline to refund Rs. 167,305 for the ticket purchase. Moreover, the airline must pay Rs. 50,000 in legal fees and Rs. 15,000 for miscellaneous expenses.
