More International and Domestic Flights Canceled at Karachi Airport

On Wednesday, Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport experienced a surge in flight cancellations, with 10 international and domestic flights being called off due to technical and operational issues.

Thai Airways flight TG-342 from Karachi to Bangkok and PIA flight PK-716 from Karachi to Jeddah were canceled today due to operational issues.

In addition, PIA flights PK-310 to Quetta and PK-155 to Sui, as well as Serene Air flights ER-504 to Islamabad, ER-522, and ER-524 to Lahore, were also canceled.

Air Blue flights PA-807 to Multan and PA-206 to Islamabad, along with Air Sial flight PF-143 to Lahore were also canceled. Furthermore, PIA flight PK-340 to Faisalabad experienced a six-hour delay.

In separate news, more than 30 abandoned aircraft at Karachi airport have become scrap and are now used by birds for shelter. Many parts of these planes have also gone missing.

A private news channel reported that a dispute over the General Declaration (GD) has caused numerous aircraft, including those from Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), to remain abandoned at Karachi Airport for years.

The abandoned aircraft include 13 non-operational planes from Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), such as Airbus 310s and two Jumbo 747s.

Sources revealed that customs officials requested General Declarations (GDs) for these aircraft, but PIA has not provided them. As a result, customs authorities have not issued the necessary No Objection Certificates (NOCs).
