National High Authority (NHA) Chairman Arshad Majeed Mohmand revealed that the NHA currently collects only 13 percent of toll tax from its highways.
He made this statement during a briefing on Wednesday to Federal Minister for Communications, Privatisation, and Board of Investment Abdul Aleem Khan.
He added that following the Federal Minister for Communications’ instructions, the NHA has initiated a refinement process and is proposing short and long-term policy measures to address the issue.
Abdul Aleem Khan stated that corruption and incompetence would not be tolerated within the NHA. He suggested that transferring toll collection to the private sector could resolve issues in areas with revenue collection problems.
He directed the National Highway Authority to set annual revenue targets, aiming to boost both efficiency and revenue while making a noticeable improvement in the institution’s performance.
Abdul Aleem Khan highlighted that the country is developing a network of high-quality highways and motorways. The minister added that in the future no motorway will be built with fewer than six lanes.
He announced that future motorways will have no fewer than six lanes, with key projects including Karachi to Sukkur and Sialkot to Kharian-Islamabad routes. He instructed the NHA to ensure all motorways feature at least three lanes per direction, enhance revenue through toll plazas, and enforce axle load regulations rigorously.

Sticker system can take care of most of our worries. In the age of automation we still relay on manual collections.
