Intermediate Students’ Addresses and Phone Numbers Leaked by Boards Across Pakistan

A troubling issue has surfaced following the recent announcements by Intermediate Boards across Pakistan.

In a shocking oversight, these Boards have not only revealed the names of top-performing students but also published their home addresses and mobile numbers, particularly those of female students.

This lapse has raised alarms about the safety and privacy of these young women, who are now vulnerable to potential risks such as harassment and scams.

The disclosure of such sensitive information has sparked widespread concern over the Boards’ handling of student data. In a country where privacy and social norms are deeply intertwined, the release of personal details, especially those of female students, poses serious risks.

The exposure could lead to unwanted attention, harassment, and even more severe social repercussions. On the other hand, the Karachi Board’s sudden release of matric exam results on Monday upset students, as varying marks on the Board’s website created confusion and frustration.

For example, one student saw their score drop from 715 to zero upon rechecking, while another student who initially had 700 marks was suddenly marked as failed. The results, initially set for July, were delayed until the Department of Boards and Universities ordered the Karachi Board to release them by August 30.

  • This is so troublesome as i have received multiple random messages on my whatsapp number which was given as my daughter’s contact number. I raised issue to Rana Sikandar and Maryam yesterday through X but no action was taken. Such negligence and data breach could have resulted in loss of few jobs in first world countries. Strict action should be taken to ensure non-occurrence in future as nothing can be done for those whose data is circulating in whatsapp groups now.
