Aamir Ibrahim Highlights Jazz’s Digital Aspirations in Discussions with IMF, World Bank

Jazz CEO Aamir Ibrahim has recently been engaged in a series of meetings with prominent figures from the International Monitory Fund (IMF) and the World Bank in Washington, D.C.

A delegation, including Aamir Ibrahim, Co-Founder of VEON Group, Augie K Fabela II, Board Member and former U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, and Group Director of Corporate Affairs Marine Babayan, delved into discussions with IMF and World Bank representatives, highlighting Jazz’s role in transforming Pakistan’s digital and financial landscape.

During the discussions, Aamir briefed the IMF and World Bank representatives on Jazz’s dynamic ServiceCo model, showcasing how the company has evolved from a conventional mobile operator to a somewhat revolutionary conglomerate.

Aamir explained that the company is expanding into software, analytics, and data centers under Jazz’s new structure, positioning itself as a global tech leader. These efforts aim to export IT services, generate dollarized income for Pakistan, and attract international investors by strategically establishing operations in favorable jurisdictions, boosting FDI.

He said: “This transformation reflects our commitment to continuously evolve with the changing needs of our customers. By leveraging specialized expertise and fostering innovation, we aim to boost agility, sharpen our focus on key business areas, and drive substantial growth,”

During the discussions, Aamir also emphasized the critical role of Jazz’s fintech and digital platforms in driving Pakistan’s digital economy.

He highlighted JazzCash, the country’s largest and most comprehensive financial services platform, along with Tamasha, Jazz’s entertainment streaming service; Garaj, its cloud computing solution; and SIMOSA, its self-care app.

JazzCash, serving 44 million users—30% of whom are women—reported a Gross Transaction Value of PKR 7.4 trillion in Q2 2024. Spotlighting Tamasha, he shared that with 18 million monthly active users, Tamasha offers live TV, on-demand content, exclusive shows, and live sports.

Similarly, Garaj supports 98 of the top 100 PSX-listed companies, aligning with Pakistan’s data sovereignty goals. Last but not least, SIMOSA, formerly JazzWorld, has over 18 million MAUs and is the top lifestyle app on Google Play.

The delegation’s meetings reviewed VEON’s global and local efforts to enhance digital infrastructure, highlighting that such advancements are crucial for economic growth.

The discussions underscored VEON’s strategic investments in connectivity and digital services, reaffirming the company’s commitment to driving digital transformation.
