Apple has implemented another price hike for battery replacements on its latest flagship devices, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max.
According to the company’s official iPhone Repair & Service page, customers will now face a $119 charge for battery replacement services on these models. This represents a significant 20% increase from the previous year, with costs rising by $20 from the $99 price point set for the iPhone 15 Pro series.
The company does offer some relief for customers enrolled in its AppleCare+ program. Under this extended warranty, if an iPhone’s battery capacity drops below 80% of its original specification, users can receive a replacement at no additional cost. For those without AppleCare+ coverage, battery replacement remains available, but at the newly increased fee.
Apple’s decision to raise battery replacement costs for the iPhone 16 Pro series may be rooted in technological advancements and regulatory compliance measures. Recent leaks from multiple sources have revealed a significant change in battery design: the reintroduction of metal casings. This feature, absent from smartphone batteries for some time, can enhance thermal management and potentially extend overall battery life.
Additionally, the iPhone 16 series reportedly features a redesigned internal layout, making batteries more accessible for replacement. This modification is likely in response to upcoming European Union legislation, set to take effect in June 2025, which mandates that smartphone manufacturers ensure batteries are user-replaceable using common tools.
Industry analysts suggest that these design changes, particularly the internal restructuring to comply with EU regulations, may have required substantial investment from Apple.
